RPL is defined as a process that involves assessment of an individual’s relevant prior learning (including formal, informal and non-formal learning) to determine the credit outcomes of an individual application for credit. The skills and knowledge demonstrated along with work experience/performance are used to determine credit outcomes. RPL is usually offered at enrolment, or prior to the commencement of a study course, however it can also be applied for during study. Most ADF training would be considered non-formal learning – learning that takes place through a structured program of instruction but does not lead to the attainment of a formal qualification or award.
